May the Lord multiply His grace and mercy to you through your knowledge of Him and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We pray your lives will be blessed as you enter 2011 as you continue to abide in Jesus and His Word.

One of the highlights of our 2nd journey; April-September, 2010 was our visit to Mount Saint Helens in Washington. Rick was there when it blew in May, 1980 and saw all that has happened since the catastrophic eruption, and devastating mud flows. Rick, along with thousands of scientists from all over the world witnessed the empirical evidence of recent rapid geologic changes like the “Little Grand Canyon”, 600 feet of strata, rapid petrification of trees and coalification of tree bark that are both being buried quickly by sediment in Spirit Lake. In fact, if it were possible to drain Spirit Lake the terrain would resemble Specimen Ridge in Yellowstone where a sign was removed because of the evidence at Spirit Lake. That sign at Specimen Ridge stated, “50,000,000 years ago…where 29 different forests grew…” After getting permission to dig around the roots of the petrified trees at Specimen Ridge, scientists found that the trees had not grown there at all. The abrupt ripped edged of the root balls showed that the trees were ripped out and buried in sediment over a short period of time, just like what is happening at Spirit Lake, WA. These events caused Rick to rethink his views on geologic “long ages.” After 7 years of research, he saw that most of his scientific views had been based on man’s opinion rather than on empirical evidence. The things he saw happening at Mount Saint Helens were evidence of alternatives to his Macro Evolution, and “long ages” opinions. In 1987 Rick received Jesus as his Savior, and since that time has become a young earth Creationist. He attributes much of the change in his views to the evidences that can still be seen at Mount Saint Helens today. The site remains visible to all who are interested, because no lava has covered the catastrophic geologic changes, and it remains as a viable empirical scientific laboratory.

While there, Rick led a three day teaching tour for many adults and a bus load of high school students from a church in near by Idaho.

We ask you to continue praying for, a broader prayer base, wisdom, financial support, open doors and for hearts to be opened to the truth of God’s Word as doubt is replaced by faith as Rick continues to glorify God through the ministry of Confound the Wise and the Creation Evidence Center that was donated to this ministry this fall.

Thanks for your email updates, and I pray that your lectures and the Creation Evidence Center will be used to turn many people’s hearts and minds towards our Creator! I remember your visit and presentation at our fellowship in San Jose, and as a teacher I appreciate all the ways I can now link science information with the biblical record. We also had Ken Ham and Dr. Jason Lisle visit and this was also inspiring! I look forward to hearing more about your discoveries and adventures. I am more convinced than ever that creation is a foundation of faith, since my students who are convinced they developed from animals often find little reason to think much about God or value themselves with distinction. It is sad to read below about those who no longer walk with the Lord – but perhaps they will awaken! People may appear dormant in their spiritual life for years, and then be touched by the grace of God. Yet, I definitely can see a connection between a lack of faith in our creation as beings in God’s image and growing cold or lukewarm as a Christian. A deadly rationale seems to invade along with the confusion of theistic evolution. I struggled with it for years after a professor at my Christian college introduced me to the idea, and was finally freed when I realized that evolving humanoids made no sense if I believed we are made in the image of God – and I do! At what point do these humanoids become the image of God? When did the fall happen? It just goes on, and yes, the gospel itself begins to grow fuzzy. Both Genesis and John’s gospel link the Word: “In the beginning” (Gen 1:1) and “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the word was God.” (John 1:1)

May He bless you with His power and peace in your spirits! L. Rose
